How would someone go about becoming a member at your Clubhouse?

In order to become a member of our Clubhouse we ask for a referral from Westmoreland Case management, Psychiatrist, psychologist, practitioner of the Healing Arts, and self-referral.

History:

West Place Clubhouse began as a Drop-in Center in 1990. In 1998, the program adopted the Clubhouse Model and was named New Beginnings Clubhouse. In 2002, It was recommended through ICCD to obtain a new name for the program. Through many meetings with staff and members, the Clubhouse chose the name West Place Clubhouse. The Clubhouse continues to maintain their Clubhouse International Accreditation through the years and has maintained a strong socialization/wellness component.

Tell us about your Clubhouse:

West Place Clubhouse is open Monday through Friday. The work order day runs Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Every Wednesday, West Place Clubhouse has extended the hours until 6:00pm. From 4:00pm to 6:00pm is when the Clubhouse members and staff engage in a social activity.  West Place Clubhouse is also opened one Saturday a month for members and staff to engage in a social, either in the community, or in-house. West Place provides free transportation to and from the program, as well as transportation to community activities.

West Place Clubhouse has recently changed the program units. There were two units that members can choose to work in, however, with Clubhouse consensus, members and staff agreed to three units. The Career Development unit, members work hand in hand in utilizing the computers to seek employment opportunities, and/or obtain employment opportunities through Transitional Employment Program, completing Clubhouse clerical needs, and providing resources to obtain GED or providing assistance for continuing education. The Career Development unit, members will receive the supports needed to help in obtaining their long term goals in the working and learning domains.  The Hospitality Unit provides members with skills in learning kitchen safety through volunteering in the kitchen area, where meals are prepared. Members and staff work side by side in completing inventories, budgeting costs of meals, and healthy portions when serving lunch. West Place has also included the Cafe, our snack bar in the hospitality unit. The  Café, helps members practice marketable skills though volunteering at the Cafe, learning how to inventory supplies, customer service, and the running of the cash register. Member utilize the hospitality unit to prepare breakfast, healthy snacks, that are served at the snack bar, and also practice food safety. The Café is also in charge of the running of the Community store. The members participate in all aspects of running the Clubhouse together with staff to create meaningful relationships through work. This provides the confidence and empowerment many members need to allow them to advance in their recovery.
