Clubhouse History/About Our Clubhouse
On July 21, 2015, Threshold Rehabilitation Services, Inc. was awarded the Healthy Transitions Grant after presenting their proposal for a Site Base Psychiatric Rehabilitation Service to support the youth and young adult population in Berks County. The Healthy Transitions Grant is part of a federal grant program, Now Is The Time (NITT); Berks, Bucks, and Washington Counties were invited to participate in the grant program in order to implement its goals.
On December 7, 2015, Hope Springs Clubhouse opened its doors with four members, a manager, a full time psychiatric rehabilitation worker, and a part time peer support specialist.
Beginning October 1, 2017, Hope Springs Clubhouse moved fully from Healthy Transitions Grant funding to a combination of Medical Assistance and BASE funding, though still participates in Healthy Transitions projects and activities.
The purpose of this program is to improve access to treatment and support services for youth and young adults ages 16 - 25 that either has, or are at risk of developing, a serious mental health condition and to "bridge the gap" between child and adult service systems through use of the clubhouse model.
Stated the best by a Hope Springs Clubhouse founding member:
“Hope reinforces recovery, our acronym HOPE, H represents Healing; the first step to recovery, O represents Opportunity; we are a resource to provide the opportunity and support for recovery, P represents Potential when people are given the support they see their innate potential, E represents Empower; when a person sees the opportunity and believes in their potential, they become empowered and believe in themselves, that is hope to me.”
The Clubhouse is in the midst of developing the unique Clubhouse program, transitional employment, as well as their supported education program and EWH or evening/weekend/holiday program (social program), coordinating and collaborating with other providers and agencies in Berks, and completing community outreach to spread the word about its existence and combat stigma.
Hope Springs Clubhouse looks forward to continuing their fresh start into a bright future.
