History
Cornerstone Clubhouse was created in 1996 from Community Services for Human Growth’s Social Rehabilitation Program. The agency was taken over in 1997 by Community Services of Devereux, who later returned the contract to the local county office. Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems was awarded the contract, participated in the transition process and finally serves as the auspice agency since August 5, 2002.

Cornerstone has been the recipient of Chester County Office of Mental Health Recovery Committee, National Alliance on Mental Illness and Phoenixville Mayor Awards. We believe community relationships are critical to offer opportunities or match interests of our members.

Clubhouse Community
Cornerstone’s work day operates Monday through Friday 8 – 4 p.m. We have Kitchen and Dining Room (KDR), Clerical, Employment and Education Units where anyone interested can obtain hands on assistance to learn or practice skills.

Cornerstone’s transitional employment positions are in data entry and dish washing. Our members work hard; typically at least thirty percent hold jobs in the community.

Our Social Committee develops a monthly schedule of activities/trips, so that we have at least one event weekly during the evening or weekend. The last Tuesday of the month our celebratory dinner is held. The committee develops some creative and fun ideas for the menu and activities.

Hear why our members say them come and why we’re different:

   • I come for the peer support and encouragement.
   • I came because people told me they want to come here!
   • There’s less quarreling than other places.
   • Members focus on positives and being nice to each other.
   • It’s a place to socialize and learn new things.
   • It’s flexible and has an open door policy.
   • I can model behavior and practice it so I can get work.
   • They have it all in one place! I don’t have to get referred all over the place.
